The other guests were Alistair McGowan and his wife Charlotte Page, and Henry Blowfeld, the cricket commentator, who kicked off the show with an off-colour story about Noel Coward. Stewart Nicholls and I bashed out Mrs. Worthington and I even got to promote my Samuel Johnson show - which starts on 22nd.

They love the show, hate the venue. I agree - it is a poor choice for a show that requires one's consonants to be heard clearly: it is very austere and echoey.

Private Eye story: I was amazed to see that somehow Private Eye got hold of the blog I wrote about my email exchange with Deborah Orr of the Independent. I have no idea who alerted them to it and would love to know (it's all right, I won't be cross). I hope it does not get the generally admirable Ms. Orr into trouble!

New Show - Dr. Who? In Search of Samuel Johnson
This show has been long gestating and even now is not fully formed. But it is a project dear to my heart and I hope it will introduce a new audience to the great man in the tercentenary of his birth.
